Upper School (Key Stage Two) = Years 3-6

The curriculum at Cameron House follows a clearly structured academic course, from Reception to Year 6, allowing each child to be fully prepared by the time they sit the Common Entrance examinations at age 11. From the Reception class onwards children are taught by specialist teachers in French, ICT, Art, Ballet, Drama, Music and PE. In the Lower School academic subjects are taught by form teachers and in the Upper School pupils are taught by some subject specialists.

In their early years at Cameron House, the pupils are given a broad and exciting introduction to many areas of learning. At the heart of the Curriculum are the core subjects of Mathematics, English, Science and ICT. In addition to Geography, History and French, are balanced other aesthetic and practical activities such as Art and DT, Drama, Music, Current Affairs, R. E. and Physical Education to create a full and purposeful day for each child.

At 11, boys go on to Colet Court, King's College, Westminster Under, Latymer Upper and other day schools, and girls leave for St Paul's, Godolphin and Latymer, and Putney High, as well as a number of leading boarding schools.

The school is designed to be completely child-centred, modern and warm, creating the right atmosphere for learning. Yet it is not a hot house: its programme is designed to develop each child's personality and to stretch his or her individual talents. A high teacher/pupil ratio is essential to Cameron House's success. Excellent provision is made for children of exceptionally high IQ, or unusual ability, e.g. Native French Speakers' Club, and Artists' Group. The aim is to instil a firm sense of self, a passion for exploration and a freedom to express creativity, balanced by good manners, kindness and a selfless interest in others.

One of the first tasks is to foster a joy of reading, which Cameron House believes is the best foundation for future learning, reinforced by age-specific libraries in each class. All pupils can access the school's own intranet, interactive whiteboards and the extensive computer suite.

From their earliest years, music, art and sport form an integral part of the children's school life and excellent local facilities allow the pupils to engage in a wide variety of sports. Unusually, a large majority of children learn karate, which builds physical confidence. Verbal communication skills are also developed, leading to English Speaking Board Examinations or Guildhall Examinations. Other popular clubs include Lunchtime Latin, Chess, Ballet, Tap and Fencing. Two active choirs, as well as singing and percussion classes, composition and musical appreciation classes, and individual instrument lessons, lead to grade examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.

There is a genuinely open dialogue between parents and teachers, also fostered by The Friends of Cameron House. This contributes to the welcoming feel of the school. The Head of Cameron House is always delighted to give parents a tour of the school so that they can experience its special qualities for themselves.

In 2005 Cameron House School celebrated its Silver Jubilee - 25 years of educating happy, confident children, many of whom returned to commemorate the event at our Anniversary Concert. The School held a Silver Jubilee Gala and Christmas Service of Celebration at St Luke's Church, Chelsea. As a lasting memorial, a beautiful glass panel, which records the diversity of life in the school today, has been installed in the entrance hall for everyone to enjoy for another 25 years.
