'Da Mihi Sapientiam''Give Me Wisdom'

Below we have attempted to answer some of the more usual questions that visiting parents ask, but we are always happy to discuss how individual children's needs are met within the demands of the curriculum when you visit the school.

  • IS READING GIVEN DUE EMPHASIS? We firmly believe that every child can achieve success given the right stimulation. At Cameron House, we have always believed that reading is the cornerstone of a child's education and that encouraging children to read for pleasure is one of the fundamentals of education. As you walk around the school on your first visit, you will notice that our school library is unusually well-stocked, balancing the well-loved classics with more modern texts. Every classroom has an age appropriate library of volumes which the children can take home and enjoy. In addition, we make use of the excellent facilities at Chelsea Children's Library, giving the Cameron House pupils an exceptional variety of reading materials to choose from.
  • IS HOMEWORK SET? Appropriate homework is set according to the age of the child. In the Lower School the children in Reception begin by taking home books to share with their parents. In Years 1 and 2 children have weekly spelling list and early tables activities. In the Upper School children in Years 3 & 4 have between 30 and 40 minutes each day and Years 5 & 6 have one hour each day.
  • HOW IS SCIENCE APPROACHED? Our approach to science is investigative, developing scientific skills that the children will use and extend in their later studies.
  • WHAT IS YOUR ICT PROVISION? A well equipped computer suite, school intranet and a set of 16 laptops is available to all the children. In addition, each class has a computer which links to the school's network, and interactive whiteboards are used as teaching aids.
  • WHAT IS YOUR SPECIALIST TEACHING PROVISION? We can cater for all children, including those defined as gifted and bright dyslexic or dyspraxic children, providing specialist teaching support where necessary. We have a visiting Oxford Professor who works with the most able to bring them on at their own pace and qualified SEN teachers to assist children with specific learning difficulties of a dyslexic or dyspraxic nature.
