MUSIC AND DRAMA

Music and Drama form an integral part of the curriculum. Children are encouraged to take up an individual instrument and those who do have the opportunity to perform in a concert. For many children, this leads to the grade examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. There are singing and percussion classes for the older classes and two active school choirs, together with a smaller group concentrating on advanced choral work.

There are also after-school clubs with a musical emphasis throughout the week, and the children get many opportunities to make music together and to engage in choral work. There is always a church-based musical celebration at Christmas time.

These skills are put to good use in the plays staged by both the Upper and Lower Schools each term, usually held at The Chelsea Town Hall or the Kensington Library Theatre. Some recent examples include: The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, Shakespeare's Macbeth and Puss in Boots.

Those pupils who are particularly interested in drama can join an after-school club, where they can develop their acting range and abilities still further.
